Callaway FT-i Driver pushed Fusion Technology to the extreme
Callaway FT-i Driver is designed to be the world’s straightest driver, the FT-i Driver is Fusion Technology pushed to the extreme, creating golf’s most Complete Inertial Design. To exploit Fusion Technology—our weight-shifting science that uses multiple materials in clubhead construction—the design demanded a new shape. The Callaway FT-i Driver pushes the boundaries of shape, of our imagination, of the rules.
460cc Complete Inertial Design of Callaway FT-i Driver
Positions discretionary weight to the extreme corners of the Callaway FT-i Driver 's clubhead, raising the moment of inertia (MOI) for unparalleled resistance to twisting both horizontally and vertically, providing forgiveness on shots hit all over the face.
Carbon Composite Body
The material of Callaway FT-i Driver used to make the body is significantly lighter than titanium, allowing Callaway Golf engineers to move discretionary weight where it is needed most, resulting in better stability and distance.
CT/VFT Titanium Cup Face
Modified version of VFT Technology in which face thicknesses are designed specifically to maximize performance under the new USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in our largest most robust face for increased ball speed on shots hit all over the face.
OptiFit Weighting System
Callaway FT-i Driver enables golfers to customize their driver by giving them three different center of gravity (CG) locations to choose from in most lofts: Draw for promoting a draw or reducing a slice/fade; Neutral for maximum workability; or Fade for promoting a fade or reducing a hook/draw.

The Callaway FT-i driver has had a lot of hype and rightly so as it was the first introduction of a new type of driver focussing on a high moment of inertia (MOI) to reduce twisting of the club head at impact, particularly on off-centre hits. In our tests it certainly does keep off-centre hits straighter and they also get a good level of distance. The shape is intriguing and it seems a compact head compared to other high MOI drivers. However the greater moment of inertia does have its drawbacks. For instance, better players who swing in to out will need to get a draw bias FT-i because the MOI weights mean that with a neutral bias FT-i the clubhead continues on the 'out' path through impact instead of 'turning over' at impact with standard driver. The opposite would apply for an out to in swing. Once you understand this and have the right set up then the FT-i performs very well, albeit a bit on the noisy side. However this all seems a bit convoluted to us and better golfers should probably opt for a driver with a lower MOI of under 5000, such as the Callaway FT-5, to get the performance they need. Our feeling is that the Callaway FT-i driver is best suited to mid to high handicappers who have trouble getting their drives going straight and therefore need all this forgiveness. If this is you then this is probably the best square driver out there at present.
Callaway FT-i Driver was a gift for my husband. It was delivered in a timely fashion. He loves it.
